Fire!!! Or is something cooking on the BBQ?

The other night, Jason cranked up the BBQ to grill some steaks. As he headed back into the house, he smelled a... grass fire?!?!? He promptly opened the BBQ and found a pile of dry grass. Ack! (This is why you should always open the lid BEFORE lighting the BBQ) Anyhow, he turned off the gas, called the kids, and began chewing out all the potential offenders. Really. Why would anyone put grass into the BBQ?

Any guesses? Me neither...

It wasn't a child's handiwork. It was a bird's. Yikes!!!! There's a nice little nest in there. At the time, there were 2 eggs. We're hoping that the brief increase in room temperature did no harm. As of this morning, there are 5 eggs.

Jason looked it up on-line and apparently they have about a two week incubation. Seems we won't be BBQing for a while!

HeHeHe. Now you get critters too! I'm jealous. Those little eggs are too cute. I've been trying to encourage the local bird population at our house, but until I discourage the local cat population, I'm not expecting much luck. Unfortunately, the one area we are having bird luck in is in the 3rd floor roof. The sparrows are vying with the squirrels for this year's condo space.

What are you aginst steak and eggs?Wait a few days maybe the eggs will be double yolkers!!

They're robin eggs in case you're wondering. They may only take 2 weeks to hatch but tell Jason to hold the BBQ for awhile longer because they need to get big enough to fly the coop! Amy
